Who we are
A meditation:
So I’ve been knitting since I was 11. It was a required elective at school (which also boasted a lamb as our mascot—NOT great for sports games), and over time I’ve marveled at the fact that a ball of yarn, stuck on the body, can do nothing to warm it, but with patience and deft manipulation over time, can turn into something that protects us from the cold.
For those who are new to knitting, the cast on row is the foundation for any project. I have to make sure I lay the foundation properly, and always take a moment to remember the right way to join the end to the beginning, no matter how many times I have done this.
“This is your life, I heard Him say ‘this is your life’”
The stitch marker (blue) is what I use to help me know where I am in a project. I remember explaining it once to my friend Sanza’s daughter some years ago, and she noted how it kept moving as I knit. I see it now as a type of orbit, each stitch representing a day, a step, a breath. The stitch marker may help us note in time, but God is the one knitting and moving us in sound, mostly imperceptible ways.
What seemed linear actually became round and turned into a work in progress. Each row building on the last, turning nothing into something for Your use.
What you’ll find here are pieces that on one hand keep you cozy and on the other will remain as tangible reminders of the truth that you are a beautiful work in God’s hands.
My labels bear the names of my Wellesley College advisors Victor Kazanjian and Joy Renjilian-Burgy, lovingly called VICTOR x JOY. Occasionally you find some pieces here knitted by my father with the label Obadiah Love.
Please note that 25% of the proceeds for each piece will go towards supporting the vital work of World Central Kitchen, an organization always on the front lines of crises to feed those who need it most.
With care,
Kamilah Ain/Cyūzozo
